CAIRNS REGIONAL INFOback

Kuranda Queensland

Kuranda established  a railway station in the mid 1800's  when mining and logging was a big  industry on the Atherton Tablelands.

Kuranda has become quite a famous tourist destination and recognised for its famous "Kuranda Markets".

Kuranda Rainforest

Hidden away among the dense tropical rainforest, you can stroll through the markets browsing a huge variety of stalls which provide an original range of handmade local arts & crafts plus Australian opals, jewellery, gemstones, crocodile and kangaroo leather goods.

Discover some rich Aboriginal heritage as they share part of their 60,000 year history with you.

This vibrant little village is only 27 km North West of Cairns and has a population of approx 800.

You might like to get there by Skyrail cable car and returning on the  Kuranda train or the other way around.

Relax and enjoy the tropical delights at one of the local restaurants and cafes.
Visit the many nature based attractions in Kuranda, including the butterfly sanctuary, native birds and the magnificent Barron River. Take a safari tour, river cruise or bungy jump 250 feet down into the rainforest.

Kuranda has a range of accommodation choices from  resort style accommodation, camping, bed & breakfast, backpacker or eco-rainforest cabins. Let the locals help you experience the Kuranda hospitality.
