Cairns beaches are lined with palm trees and other types of tropical rainforest plants giving the picture perfect image that you see in all of the holiday promotional brochures that draw your eyes attention in the travel agency offices and all over the internet.
Each of the Cairns northern beaches suburbs offers their own style of accommodation, services and facilities for visitors to Cairns.
Machans Beach is the first of the Cairns northern beaches and just a 10 minute car journey from the Cairns International Airport. Whilst Machans Beach is not recognised as a tourist destination type of beach it does has some very quaint and some very posh beach houses on Redden Island that are available for holiday letting.
Beach houses are great for those families or friends that like the space and privacy of a house so they can totally look after themselves and be independent.
Machans Beach has two restaurants to choose from, one serving Thai meals six nights a week and the other with a bar and a la carte style menu around six nights a week. There is also a petrol station that also offers ice and groceries for that last minute shopping item.
A great place to throw a net in the water for prawns and at the very end of Redden Island is the mighty Barron River which is perfect for fishing, just be very careful of crocodiles though! Oh and there is a boat ramp but again be very careful of crocodiles when launching boats in the local rivers.
Machans Beach is definitely not a swimming type of beach.
Holloways Beach is a quiet little hamlet located just 12 minutes north from the Cairns International Airport. Holloways Beach has a few resort style holiday accommodation houses that cater specifically for tourists and offer apartment style accommodation and swimming pools.
Holloways Beach has quite a few places to choose from for dining options with a café on the beach and an Italian restaurant and other take away outlets also on offer. There is also a bottle shop for those holiday beverages.
Swimming at Holloways Beach is fine and is patrolled by Surf Lifesavers at various times of the year and the swimming enclosures are out during the summer period so that visitors can swim in the one location that is checked regularly for marine jelly fish by the surf life savers.
Yorkeys Knob is very similar to Holloways Beach, a quiet little village just 15 minutes north from the Cairns International airport but it offers guests a lot more things to do and see within the area.
There is the Yorkey’s Knob Boat Club which is very popular with locals and tourists alike. They offer pokies, raffles, live bands and entertainment several nights a week and a fantastic outdoor restaurant overlooking the marina. You can even hire a fishing boat or go on a private boat charter from here to the Great Barrier Reef. And they even offer a courtesy bus pick up and drop off service so you do not drink and drive.
The Yorkeys Knob Golf Club is also very popular. It has an 18 hole golf course which is a bit of fun and a restaurant that offers lunches and dinners and both indoor and outdoor dining.
There is a shopping strip on the drive into Yorkeys Knob that offers everything that you could possibly think of like hairdresser, bottle shop, supermarket, take away, restaurants and more.
Then you have the beachfront that offers barbeque facilities right next to the children’s playground and more shops and other attractions for visitors to enjoy.
Kite surfing is a very popular sport on the Yorkeys Knob Beach so if you have ever thought about giving it a go now is your chance when you take a holiday in the Cairns Northern Beaches.
Trinity Beach is a very popular Beach and has a much bigger infrastructure to cater for tourists and locals to enjoy a day, a week or a month on the beach.
The Trinity Beach restaurants here are frequented by locals on a regular basis and it is a destination that tourists return to once they discover it. Italian, Thai, Bistro, a La Carte and burgers are on offer here seven days a week as is an ice cream store and a small grocery outlet on the beachfront.
On the incoming Trinity Beach road there is a bakery and a great little grocery store that has a fantastic delicatessen, a really good butcher, newsagents, bottle shop and lots of other things for tourists to visit when needed.
The Trinity Beach Tavern is a big drawcard as it sits perched on the hill top overlooking the Coral Sea. It offers bistro style indoor and outdoor dining and frequently has entertainment and also poker machines for the adults and computer games for the children. If you want to have a few then just give them a call and use their courtesy coach transfer to come and fetch you from your holiday accommodation.
The variety of holiday accommodation is enormous and of course has various pricing to suit all budgets and requirements. Cairns Holiday Deals has some great one off hard to beat holiday packages that will have you staying in this great little village and seeing all the sights of Cairns and its surroundings at the best prices available and that are our guarantee.
Trinity Beach is a very popular swimming beach and has a beautiful esplanade that is manicured and cared for by the local Trinity Beach residents in conjunction with the Cairns city council. It has a children’s playground and several barbeque stations dotted along the beachfront in the rainforest gardens.
Kewarra Beach is a nice beach to take long walks and utilise the children’s playground and the local barbeque facilities for a day out under the giant Melaleuca trees. Kewarra Beach is a popular gathering place for locals as the shade provided here by the trees is just fabulous for those hot summer days and the beach is patrolled by surf life savers at varying times of the year.
The only holiday accommodation at Kewarra Beach is the Kewarra Beach Resort with its bungalow style of accommodation. The resort has recently gone thru a fabulous refurbishment to its lobby, bar and restaurant and as soon as you enter the front doors you know you have arrived.
The Beach Shack is the hottest place in town for afternoon lunch and sunset drinks. It is located on the absolute beach front within Kewarra Beach Resort and offers pizza and other items from the resorts menu. Entertainment is provided a few nights of the week and you have to book in advance to secure a table for yourself and we also suggest you pre-book a time for your pizzas to be cooked also.
A really cool place that is the epiphony of the meaning of the tropics!
Palm Cove is the most popular of all of the Cairns Northern beaches and offers sophisticated international resorts and hotels for guests travelling from the world over.
Palm Cove has a fantastic sense of arrival as you come down Veivers Road to the beachfront. The whole village is framed by Palm trees and giant ancient Melaleuca trees with coble stoned streets and colourful low rise shops and restaurants along the strip.
Palm Cove is a destination for total relaxation and quiet enjoyment. It’s location is just perfect as it is only 30 minutes from the Cairns International airport, 45 minutes from Port Douglas and only 30 minutes from the Atherton Tablelands which places it in the middle of everything there is to see and do around the Cairns region and the Great Barrier Reef.
The beautiful beach here is an attraction for families as it is patrolled all year round and has a beach front children’s playground, showers and changing facilities, barbeques and pavilion shelters dotted along the beachfront for everyone’s enjoyment.
Palm Cove is also one of the most popular choices for weddings in Cairns and Tropical north Queensland and has one of the most beautiful beachfront chapels that you could imagine.
The choice of dining and take away options are multiple and varying in cuisine types. There is not much entertainment as such in Palm Cove as it is a destination to get away to for total relaxation but the local tavern and hotel do offer pokies and some nightly entertainment like Karaoke and juke box machines for those that would like to carry on after dinner.
Ellis Beach is just 40 minutes north from the Cairns International Airport on the Captain Cook highway as you head to Port Douglas. Ellis Beach is also patrolled thru the year with the Australian Surf life savers Association and has swimming enclosures during the summer months.
There is a caravan park and beachfront bungalows for holiday makers and a beach bar and bistro is the only place that you can get a meal or any take away items unless you drive back to Palm Cove which is only 10 minutes south heading back to Cairns.
Should you wish to book the caravan park or these bungalows you need to do it as soon as you decide you would like to spend your next holiday in Ellis Beach.
