GREAT BARRIER REEF DIVE HOLIDAY

DESTINATIONS

The trips are generally between Cairns and Lizard Island, exploring the sites along the Ribbon Reefs and introducing guests to the world-famous Cod Hole. This site, often described as one of the best dive spots on the Great Barrier Reef, is known for its resident family of huge potato cod, which enjoy protected status in the area and have made this small section of the reef their home. They range in size from 25 to 60 kg (50 to 120 pounds). The diving depth at the Cod Hole varies from 10 to 12 metres on a sloping bottom that is dotted with high-profile coral heads.

CREW & PASSENGERS

With a crew of six and limited to eighteen passengers, the boat is ideally sized and equipped for shorter trips for travellers passing through Cairns, to longer expeditions to the far reaches of the Great Barrier Reef. 

 

THE BOAT

A twin-engine power catamaran, the vessel is spacious and offers amenities normally seen on much larger dive boats. Guests are accommodated in 3 large double and 3 spacious quadruple cabins, each of which are spacious and contain  private facilities.
The nicely-appointed main salon offers dining and relaxation areas, as well as a well-equipped entertainment centre and bar area. The large shaded top deck offers an open-air respite from the sun, while the expansive bow serves as a welcome warm-up between dives.

Scuba dives are conducted daily directly from the aft dive deck, with entries made directly off of the twin dive platforms into the water. The vessel is well-stocked with quality diving gear for each guest for those passing through the area as part of a longer trip, while the crew's experience and qualifications are well suited for those travelling specifically to dive. 

 

DIVING

Though we are normally able to do four to five dives daily (including night dives), the remoteness of the area means that weather and tidal considerations sometimes unexpectedly and adversely affect certain sites. The following itinerary is an example only, and can and will change during the course of the trip.
PADI dive courses from open water certification through advanced and specialty courses are also offered.

Itinerary D - Cooktown, Osprey, Cod Hole & Ribbon Reefs Expedition
Cooktown to Cairns, 8 days/7 nights - up to 27 dives. Departs Cooktown Tuesdays.

Itinerary E - Holmes Reef, Ribbon Reefs & Cooktown Expedition
Cairns to Cooktown, 5 days/4 nights - up to 15 dives. Departs from Cairns Tuesdays.
